Community Hub Update March 2022

Since the launch of the Star and Garter regeneration and repurposing project in February we are delighted with the positive response to the project and vision and at the time of going to press we had reached the half million mark with many more generous contributions expected.

We are also pleased that the Community Hub has now been successfully registered with the Charity Commission and is now a registered charity no 1197945. The charity will be governed by Charity Commission guidelines, with trustees, a constitution and membership open to all the residents of Kirkby Overblow, Dunkeswick and Kearby with Netherby. It will also allow us to obtain Gift Aid on all eligible donations.

The old Village Hall charity set up some 30 years ago when it was hoped to build a new hall is being wound up and the remaining £5,000 or so funds will be transferred to the new charity.

Designs and plans are now being drawn up for the development of the building and surrounding land and carpark taking into consideration the HBC Conservation Area Character Appraisal which identifies the Star as a ‘Landmark’ building in the heart of the village conservation area and green belt. As such any development is restricted by HBC planning policy which protects buildings of this nature and safeguards the
premises for community use.

Please now seriously consider how you can help this venture to be a success that will transform our village and provide a lasting place to meet at the coffee shop and rooms for leisure activities and commercial presentations.

If you have already made a pledge to the project A Big Thank you, if you are still considering the idea of making a pledge we would be only too pleased to have a chat to you.

Any of the Founding Trustees of the charity will be happy to speak to you about our detailed Business Plans and proposed organisation and activities:

Robert Henderson Chairman 01423 870969
Geof Nuttall Secretary / Heritage 01423 872669
Paul Roughley Finance Officer 01423 879762
Guy Townsend Architect 07984 428623
David Yeadon Chairman Parish Council 01423 810230

If we don’t do anything that skip may still be there in another 5 years !!!
